Manuel Gutierrez Villanueva Bio

My name is Manuel Gutierrez Villanueva and I am 3rd year PhD student in Physical Oceanography at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego. I got my masters in oceanography from CICESE, Mexico in 2015. For my current research, I am interested in the role of eddies and internal on the large scale ocean circulation and their efficiency for mixing certain seawater properties such as temperature, salinity, oxygen, etc.

For this cruise, I will be fully responsible for the velocity measurements obtained through acoustic Lowered Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (LADCP) operations, including data acquisition, shipboard processing and basic quality control. I am looking forward to participating in this cruise and experience what the real Southern Ocean looks like.

I enjoy soccer (either playing or watching), Mexican food, camping and saltwater fishing.
