Max Rintoul Bio

I was raised in Tasmania, and grew up hearing stories about the Southern Ocean from friends and family, so I’m pretty excited to have a chance to experience it myself. I completed my undergraduate studies at the Australian National University, and will be starting a PhD in the US in 2018. My main research interests lie in how the oceans are changing chemically, and how these changes will impact vital organisms and ecosystems, such as plankton and coral reefs. On S04P, I will be working alongside Mark Warner and Eugene Gorman as the student CFC analyst, and so will be responsible for drawing and analyzing samples. Outside of science, I enjoy rock climbing, surfing, and white-water kayaking.
